Last year was an exciting year for me. I entered the AIPP state awards and scored my first Gold Award and was a finalist in the Travel Category, and that same print went on to do even better at the National Awards where it scored a Gold with Distinction. Its a pretty hard act to follow, so this year I really felt like I had something to prove, that it was not a fluke. I decided to challenge myself and enter the Illustrative Category. I felt that this category would be perfect for me to challenge my skills in Graphic Design & Photography. I had many ideas floating around in my head that I had been wanting to attempt, and the looming awards deadline was the push I needed to make these ideas come to life. I was so happy with my final prints, which made it even harder to enter them into awards and let them be critiqued and picked to pieces. But I love the process of being judged and critiqued as I truly believe it is one of the best ways to develop and improve your skills.

I entered 4 prints into the Illustrative Category and ended up achieving 2 Silvers and 1 Silver Distinction and my other print scored in the professional standards range. Being at the judging and listening to all the professional feedback on my prints, I am determined to rework them and see if I can improve my scores at the National Awards at the end of the year.

The winners of each category were announced last night and I was lucky enough to be a finalist in the Illustrative Category! You can see the amazing work of each category winner here: 2015 AIPP ACT EPSON Professional Photography Award Winners
